My name is Koech, 52 years old. My home is located at Eldoret, 300km north of Nairobi. I was working as a self-governed mechanic while farming in my home area in 1980's. What I could do was only random piece work. In many circumstances, I was full of energy and well prepared to work, but there was simply no stable job available. I have never been to China. Decades ago, way back in my formative years, I asked a friend where it is. "Look East," he said. As if I didn't know, he added: "East is where the sun rises from.
China and Kenya are geographically very far away from each other, separated by large masses of land, sea and cultures.
A poem on China-Kenya friendship,cooperation.
In early 1986, my younger brother and I strolled to a minuscule Keiyo Shopping Centre in Trans Nzoia District to catch up on the latest events around the world.
As one of the longest serving Kenyan reporters for Xinhua News Agency, I can attest that working for the official Chinese news agency has been a worthy experience.
