LONDON - British Prime Minister David Cameron will cut short a visit to France to deal with a "brutal" attack in Southeast London on Wednesday which left one dead and two others injured.

"I have been briefed by the Home Secretary on Woolwich shooting and I will return to London tonight after meeting Hollande," Cameron said.

The prime minister is currently visiting France and has met with French President Francois Hollande.

Two men attackers carrying weapons assaulted a man near the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich in Southeast London on Wednesday afternoon, Britain's Metropolitan Police (MPS) said.

The attacked man was later pronounced dead, with local media reports saying he was a soldier. British Ministry of Defense has not confirmed the information.

The two attackers were shot by police arriving on the scene. They have been taken to separate hospitals for treatment, MPS Commander Simon Letchford said.

British government sources said the attack could be "terror related," according to local media reports.

The British Prime Minister said the killing in Woolwich was "truly shocking."
