CAIRO - Egyptian investigative journalist Hossam Bahgat was released from the custody of military prosecution on Tuesday, two days after his detention on charges of publishing false news aimed at harming national security, state-owned Ahram Online reported.

Naser Amin, one of the lawyers who attended the questioning of Bahgat, told Ahram Online that his client was released pending investigation, yet without bail.

Bahgat, an investigative journalist, was interrogated by the Egyptian military intelligence Sunday and was transferred into the custody of the military prosecution.

Meanwhile, Egypt's foreign ministry condemned on Tuesday the remarks by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in which he expressed concerns over the detention of Bahgat.

Ban described Bahgat's detention as "the latest in a series of detentions of human rights defenders and others that are profoundly worrying."

Egypt's newest constitution allows military trial for civilians in crimes related to assaulting military institutions. Bahgat's report referred to some allegedly rebellious officers in the army then.
