Relations in the global village

Comment on "Abe honors heroic Chinese student" (China Daily website, Nov 14)

I'm glad to see that Chinese student Yan Jun, who saved a 9-year-old Japanese boy from a typhoon-swollen river in Osaka on Sept 16, 2013, has been welcomed and honored by Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for his brave rescue, especially since there is tension between China and Japan.

I'm so proud of Yan Jun, who is an excellent representative of Chinese youth: courageous, right-minded and are always willing to help others. Yan Jun's brave behavior not only shows the admirable spirit of Chinese young people, but will help improve relations between people from China and Japan.

I believe that both Chinese and Japanese people are kind, warm-hearted and friendly, and most people from both sides want to be friendly and get along with each other peacefully. The current strained Sino-Japanese relations are bad for both China and Japan, especially ordinary people. People-to-people communication and economic cooperation between the two countries have been obviously influenced by the unfriendly political environment. I hope people from both countries will play active roles in improving Sino-Japanese relations. We live in the global village, and we should always remember that nobody and no country can be prosperous without communication and cooperation with the outside world.
