About 150,000 qipao fans put on their best outfits and brought a splash of color to events happening simultaneously in different cities around the world as a demonstration of traditional Chinese art, as well as attempting to set a Guinness world record.

The China Qipao Association organized the event with participation by 420 of its worldwide branches.

Wang Quan, president of the association, said he wanted to display traditional culture with modern awareness, and impress the world with exquisite Chinese traditional dress - the qipao.

In Qingdao, Shandong province, the main venue, Liu Bingxin, an elderly woman who uses a wheelchair, said her family admires the beauty of this traditional Chinese dress.

Li Huangzhi, a painter, said that the art of qipao belongs to the world and there is nothing better than impressing the world with a glamorous fashion show.

A representative of Guinness Word Records attended the event in Qingdao, and the organization is assessing whether a world record was set.
