BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that China will stick to the policy tone of seeking steady progress and manage the overall economic and social development with reform next year.

Reform should be integrated into all sectors and all links of China's economic and social development in 2014, said Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Xi made the remarks at a symposium held on November 22 to hear comments and suggestions from non-Communist parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, as well as people without party affiliation regarding China's economic situation this year and economic work in 2014.

The symposium was presided over by Xi, and attended by senior CPC leaders including Li Keqiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan and Zhang Gaoli.

Reform should first target those areas in which the Chinese public has placed most anticipation, and problems which have hindered the country's economic and social development in the most prominent way, the president said.

The whole society should be allowed to feel tangible benefits from the reforms, so as to rally positive energy to the maximum extent possible for further reforms, he added.
