City splurges 50m on 'luxury' public toilets

Linfen city in Shanxi province has been criticized online after spending 50 million yuan on "luxury toilets" in the faux style of China's famous buildings. Since 2008, the city government has invested more than 50 million yuan ($8.03 million) in building more than 160 standard public toilets, 40 so-called "five star toilets" and 12 so-called "four star toilets". The city also spends 3 million yuan every year managing the toilets, some designed like the Imperial Palace and Bird's Nest. [Photo by Liu Jiang/Asianewsphoto]
