BEIJING - A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Wednesday urged CPC members to reject formality in implementing a set of guidelines to fight extravagance and bureaucracy within the Party.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, emphasized the practical results of implementing new "eight-point" guidelines to improve CPC members' work style.

The guidelines were introduced at the December-4 meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. They include simplified receptions for officials' visits, shortened official meetings and fewer traffic controls arranged for senior leaders.

Liu made the remarks when presiding over a meeting attended by government officials who conducted a month-long investigation on furthering ties with the people. The investigation lasted from late December 2012 to mid January.

Work style reflects the Party's image and affects its life and death, the senior official said, urging CPC members to rally public support by rejecting extravagance and bureaucracy.

While praising the achievements made in refining work style after the release of the "eight-point" guidelines, Liu called on Party members to be persistent in following the guidelines and refrain from circumventing them.

He urged them to raise their awareness and become self-motivated in implementing the guidance.
