More than 7,000 cases of corruption and dereliction of duty were investigated and dealt with in Central China's Hunan province in the past five years, China News Service reported on Tuesday.

The cases involved 9,168 officials. Forty-one of the officials were at the department-director level, according to a report released by the Hunan People's Procuratorate.

Gong Jiahe, the chief procurator of Hunan province, said that the local procuratorial organs will continue investigating and prosecuting officials who abuse power, take bribes and fail in their duties.
