Night life with a difference

"I have driven a Maserati, worth 3 million yuan" said Sun Xiaoqin proudly.

Sun and her husband Luo Hongbin are designated drivers, having begun working in 2013.

The couple secures bookings through E-Daijia, an app that pairs drivers with clients' own vehicles to chauffeur them when they do not wish to drive themselves.

Before taking up designated driving they ran a car rental company but with the private car becoming increasingly popular in Wuhan, business became less and less.

Rather than sell car insurance for a living, Sun became a designated driver and was then joined by her husband due to the high income that can be earned.

Working from 7 pm to 3 am, the average charge is 70 yuan, and the booking fee 20 yuan, Sun said.

"We can earn 20,000 yuan per month, if getting a lot of bookings," Sun said. "I had 13 in one day earning 907 yuan, but I worked 19 hours".
