CAIRO - Egyptian police on Monday arrested two leaders of an Islamist party affiliated with ousted president Mohamed Morsi, a security source said.
Wasat Party leader Aboul-Ela Madi and his deputy Essam Sultan, both already wanted by prosecutors, were arrested in an apartment in Cairo's Moqattam district and transferred to Tora Prison, where ex-president Hosni Mubarak, his two sons and some of his men are being detained, the source told the official news agency MENA.
The police also found a large amount of money in US dollars and euros in their possession, MENA said.
Wasat Party is a moderate Islamist party and a strong defender of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group from which Morsi hails.
