CAIRO - At least two people were killed and seven injured in overnight clashes between supporters and opponents of ousted President Mohamed Morsi in northern Egypt, state-run Ahram online reported on Saturday.

In the Nile Delta city of Mansoura, a woman and a 13-year-old girl were shot dead, while seven others were seriously injured by birdshots and stabbing attacks, said the report.

The seven wounded have been transferred to nearby hospitals, while a state of hit and run was prevailing the scene.

The clashes came as throngs of loyalists to Morsi took to the streets after Friday prayer, calling for his reinstatement as legitimate leader of the country. They also blamed the army for toppling the leader, deeming it as a military coup.

Opponents of the ousted president supported the armed forces and its roadmap, blaming Morsi supporters for recent violence.

Meanwhile, in a statement released Friday evening, Egyptian Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim reiterated its commitment to protecting peaceful protestors and their marches in accordance with the armed forces.

He also warned against violence and vandalism, adding that the Egyptian police and armed forces won't allow any bids to violate the law, cut roads, impede state institutions or occupy vital premises.
