Parade re-creates medieval scene in Belgium

Actors are dressed up as Holy Roman Emperor Charles V (1519-1556) and his entourage in a late medieval-style parade in Brussels, Belgium, on July 2, 2013. The annual parade, called Ommegang, is staged on the first Tuesday and Thursday of July. Ommegang, meaning procession in Dutch, re-creates the arrival in Brussels of Charles V and his son Philippe on June 5, 1549, with a large following. Actors in medieval costumes represent the various groups of the population, including dignitaries and guilds of the time. [Photo/Xinhua]
