Sixteen-year-old Guan Tianlang will tee up at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open starting on Thursday where his credentials as a rising star will be put to the test at the magnificent Heritage Golf Club.

The teenage prodigy is in no hurry to turn professional, preferring to take the American collegiate route in his bid to fulfill his potential.

"I just want to enjoy the week, play some good golf and get a good result," said Guan, who is at the holiday isle with his parents.

The young Chinese featured in two European Tour-sanctioned events on home soil last month, missing the cut in both, but Guan believes competing in professional tournaments will help him get better.

"I think overall, my game has improved. My body has gotten stronger and I'm hitting the ball further. My putting has been pretty consistent although, all round, I still need to get better," he said.
