LONDON - British diving star Tom Daley left on Tuesday for Barcelona for the upcoming FINA World Championships, but a glandular problem has put his participation in doubt, according to BBC.
Daley, 19, winner of the men's 10m platform at the 2009 Rome Worlds, will compete in the individual platform event if fit enough.
"His glands have swollen and that means he is not able to get into the various shapes because of the pain factor," said Daley's coach Andy Banks. "He's just coming out of that now, hopefully in time for the competition in a couple of weeks' time."
"He's done progressive lead-ups on lower boards while he's had some of these problems. It's not as if he has done nothing, but it's about preparation," he said. "But he's still chomping at the bit, and I'm sure he'll give as good a performance as he can."
The London Olympic bronze medallist had struggled with motivation after the Olympics. He also missed the European Championships and much of the World Cup series after suffering a thigh injury during training in April.
