Chinese women win respect in construction trades

Construction industry has traditionally been dominated by men, but now more women are entering the field. These women, usually following their husbands, are attracted by higher pay and a less restricted management, a survey shows.

But the work is not easy. A saying - to use men like they were iron, and to use women as they were men - vividly depicts the harsh reality construction workers have to bear.

For women, another cruel truth they have to face is to be far apart from their children. A few women who take their children with them have to work even harder to be not only a qualified worker but also a caring mother.
