Japan's belligerent intentions
Comment on "Antiquated ideas source of Abe strategy" (China Daily, Oct 29)
On one hand, by playing up the "China threat" theory Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's real intention is to promote the transformation of the Japan Self-Defense Force into a regular army. He is also making efforts to try and revise Japan's "Peace" Constitution. But on the other hand, the presence of the Chinese fleet and drones in the sea areas around Diaoyu Islands gives Abe an excuse for his belligerent posture. Even the United States and many other Western countries see his military posture and diplomatic policy in Asia to be problematic and a burden.

Japanese delegations in Beijing have expressed the possibility of bridging the gap in Sino-Japan relations. At the same time Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is flexing the country's military muscles. Whoever believes that Japan is coming in peace, please open your eyes and see the reality.
