Let's not create more pessimists
Comment on "Household chores part of a child's education" (China Daily, May 2)
Most Chinese children don't do household chores at all. In fact, their parents don't think they should do so, even though they cannot prepare the simplest of dishes or do their laundry.
I can understand why so many Chinese students in the US find it difficult to cope with life. Many of those who go to the US to study are out of their elements because they don't have a caretaker or "babysitter" to look after them.
Many families in China teach their children that the only thing that matters in life is money. Such thoughts, I regret to say, will only create pessimists, procrastinators and complainants, who cannot function well without someone telling them what and how to do.
