Chinese master artist Wu Guanzhong's portrayal of Zhouzhuang, the famous water town in Jiangsu province, fetched a record price of HK$236 million ($30.4 million) at Poly Auction's spring sale on Monday night.
The painting, mainly in black, grey and white, is composed of elements of point, line and plane. The oil painting uses a curved bridge in the foreground, and highlights the folk houses in China's Jiangnan area through the surrounding water.
Wu painted Zhouzhuang more than once and the picturesque water town has been portrayed on canvas by many other artists. Let's take a look at Zhouzhuang through the eyes of different painters.
