China and France should implement major cooperative projects, including the nuclear power station at Hinkley Point in England, President Xi Jinping said on Monday.

Xi made the remarks in Beijing while meeting with Jean-Marc Ayrault, France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development. The Hinkley Point nuclear power plant is to be built by France's EDF and partly financed by China.

The president called on the two countries to stick to the principle of mutual trust, mutual support, win-win cooperation and innovation while developing bilateral ties.

Xi recalled his meeting with French President Francois Hollande during the sidelines of the G20 summit held in eastern China's Hangzhou city last month, saying that he and Hollande reached an important consensus on multiple topics during the meeting.

Ayrault said it was important to maintain frequent high-level exchanges.

France would like to enhance cooperation with China in areas including economics, trade, and investment, he said, adding that the Hinkley Point nuclear power plant should be jointly implemented by China and France.
