BEIJING - Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, has warned comrades in the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee to avoid a sense of superiority regarding their power or status.

Xi made the remarks at a meeting of the Political Bureau held on Monday and Tuesday, during which members discussed measures to strengthen Party discipline and clean governance and reviewed the implementation of the "three stricts and three earnests" requirement.

The "three stricts and three earnests" is a series of requirements for officials to improve their lifestyles and work. It refers to being strict in morals, power and discipline, as well as honest in decisions, business and behavior.

Misconduct of former officials, including Zhou Yongkang, Bo Xilai, Xu Caihou, Guo Boxiong and Ling Jihua, showed that a Party member might as well loose his or her Party spirit, a generalized term to refer qualification of a Party member, if they relax self-discipline.

"By seriously investigating their misconduct and punishing them accordingly, the Party honors its responsibility to itself, to the country, the people, and history," said a news release issued after the meeting.

"The Party spirit does not grow with ages, rather, it requires members to constantly improve and temper themselves," it said.

According to the news release, Xi urged Political Bureau members to adhere to their Party spirit in both public and private matters, and to strengthen self discipline.

They should also encourage and welcome supervision from subordinates and people around them, and execute Party discipline and rules without any compromise, Xi was quoted as saying.
