The State Council will hold regular media briefings on major policies with the first being held on Jan 16.

The briefings, by the State Council General Office and the State Council Information Office, will normally be held every Friday morning for 30-60 minutes at the Briefing Hall of the State Council Information Office.

Open to domestic and foreign reporters, the briefings will get important information quickly into the public arena and strengthen awareness of the work and transparency of governing bodies, observers said.

Background information and interpretation concerning the key policies and targets will be provided.

Topics regarding economic and social development, education, science, culture, sports, public health, and ensuring living standards, will also be touched upon.

The first briefing will cover the development of the economy and society in 2014 and highlight the relevant policies.
