Chinese and US delegates met for the 12th meeting of the China-US Joint Liaison Group on Law Enforcement Cooperation (JLG) in Beijing from Wednesday to Friday.

The Chinese delegation consisted of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Supervision, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Ministry of Justice, the General Administration of Customs, the People's Bank of China and the Chinese Embassy in the United States.

The US delegation consisted of representatives from the Department of State, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security and the US Embassy in China.

In their opening speeches, Vice-Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin and US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Daniel Kritenbrink highlighted the importance of law enforcement cooperation in the China-US bilateral relationship, and encouraged law enforcement agencies from both sides to build on successful on-going cooperation and to reinforce the JLG mechanism.

The parties began by reviewing the significant instances of case cooperation since the last JLG in November 2013, and committed to building on those successes in the coming year.

Both sides reviewed the overall state of cooperation since the last JLG meeting, and discussed ways of enhancing cooperating on a number of law enforcement issues, including identification and return or prosecution of fugitives, recovery of assets, repatriation, counter-narcotics, intellectual property rights, joint efforts against fraud and other issues of concern.

They also decided to hold the 13th JLG meeting in the fall of 2015 in the US.
