Two female contestants perform at the first annual pole dancing contest in Southwest China's Chongqing city on March 19. The art form requires strength, endurance and flexibility, and promoters of pole dance competitions around the world have been trying to change peoples' perception and to promote it as a non-sexual form of dance and acrobatics. In addition, the pole dance seen in strip clubs in Western countries has evolved and is influenced by Chinese pole, a form of acrobatics that is performed at circuses. Competitive pole dance competitions are usually non-erotic and combine various dance styles and/or gymnastics. [Photo/icpress.cn] |
