Lyu Xinhua, spokesman with the session of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remark in response to a question from the South China Morning Post.
China has investigated corruption cases involving CPC officials including high-ranking ones, he said.
"We are doing this to demonstrate to the whole party and whole society that, when we say that anyone who violates laws and Party disciplines will be investigated and dealt with severely no matter who he is and what position he holds, we mean it," he said.
