The global trend of using cartoon images of officials has now come to China. On Wednesday, a Chinese official media outlet published a cartoon image of Premier Li Keqiang for the first time.

Li is clad in blue in the cartoon, wearing a dark blue suit and a light blue tie. The cartoon gives a detailed portrait of his eyes, brows and his hallmark glasses.

The cartoon was published as part of an illustration of how Premier Li presides over a State Council executive meeting.

Like President Xi's cartoon image, which was released a week ago, Li's cartoon image went viral immediately after it went online.

An infographic showing how President Xi Jinping has spent his time in office - including a cartoon image of the leader himself - was posted online on Feb 19. The graphic shows how Xi devoted all his time to work, leaving little left for personal matters.

Zhu Lijia, a professor at China National School of Administration, said this kind of cartoon image helps to break the sense of mystery surrounding China's top leaders, which presents a more confident and open Chinese society.
