The discipline inspection authority in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, has received 6,800 complaints in the first 11 months of the year, down 21.4 percent year-on-year, the authority said on Friday.

However, the number of officials in the city being investigated increased by 29.2 percent year-on-year to 614 during the period between January to November, the authority said.

In a latest case, Cao Jianliao, deputy mayor of Guangzhou, is being investigated for "serious discipline violations", the Guangdong provincial discipline inspection authority said on Thursday.

Cao, 58, is also Party chief of Zengcheng, a county-level city in suburb Guangzhou.
