BEIJING - The third round of the China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) strategic dialogue, slated for Monday, is being postponed, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei confirmed on Monday.

Hong said at a daily news briefing that the delay is "due to the schedule of Gulf states," without elaborating the details.

"Both sides agree that it's necessary to hold the dialogue under the current situation and are willing to launch it as soon as possible," Hong said.

Members of the GCC, a regional political and economic alliance established in 1981, include Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

China and the GCC had their first round of strategic dialogue in June 2010 in Beijing. The second round was held in the United Arab Emirates in May 2011.
