The mudslide-hit Beijing-Guangzhou Railway has been repaired, and northbound train runs will gradually resume, the central railway authority said on Sunday.Damaged railway fixed, but trains still on hold

The railway suspended multiple runs on Saturday, stranding tens of thousands of passengers.

Guangzhou Railway Corp said on its micro-blog account that the mudslide-hit rail line was fixed after more than 20 hours, but northbound train service from Guangzhou Railway Station would not resume on Sunday night.

The company also listed dozens of train services that will continue to be suspended between Monday and Thursday.

Torrential rains have disrupted rail transportation in Guangdong province since Friday.

Heavy rainfall from Typhoon Utor caused mudslides along the rail artery in the province's north since Friday evening.

Mudslides halted the operation of the southern section of the Beijing-Guangzhou rail line. All trains that depart from Guangzhou Railway Station, the main station in the provincial capital, have been suspended since Saturday evening, stranding more than 80,000 passengers.

Trains bound for the city have also been affected, with several runs from Beijing, Shijiazhuang and Tianjing canceled.

However, high-speed rail links between Guangzhou and other places have not been affected.
