Village re-emerges 5 years after flooding

Xuanping village, which was flooded in 2008 and underwater for more than five years, appears again in Beichuan county, Sichuan province, July 14. The village was hit by an 8.0-magnitude earthquake on May 12, 2008, and was flooded by Yanse Lake. More than five years later, on July 9, 2013, the biggest flood in 50 years hit the area and damaged the banks. After the flood retreated, the water level fell from 712 meters above sea level to 703 meters. Nearly 10 buildings, including residences and offices, rose again from the water. [Photo/CFP]
