Laotian deputy PM meets Chinese military delegation on ties

VIENTIANE - Laotian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Douangchay Phichit met with visiting Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Qi Jianguo here Wednesday, exchanging views on bilateral ties and military relations, as well as the regional security situation.

China and Laos has been close neighbors, and Laos is grateful for China's long-term support to its national and military development, said Douangchay Phichit, adding that Laos is willing to work with China to further deepen military cooperation and make contributions to the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between the two countries.

Qi said China-Laos cooperation has yielded fruitful achievements. The Chinese and Lao militaries have carried out pragmatic cooperation through exchange of high-level visits, personnel training, development of military schools and border defense.

China would like to work with Laos to enhance strategic communication, deepen pragmatic cooperation and push forward bilateral relations, said Qi, who arrived in Vientiane Wednesday for an official goodwill visit at the invitation of the Lao defense ministry.
