A campaign against global warming has been launched in Beijing, calling for people to carry out five tasks every day to reduce energy use and resource consumption.

WildAid, an international non-governmental organisation and initiator of the campaign, linked with the National Energy Conservation Center to launch the Chinese version of an international campaign.

WildAid believes individuals can make a significant change in facing climate change, which poses a threat to the survival of endangered species and the future of humans.

People can log on to www.meiri5shi.org to join the campaign by uploading their five things to do. The campaign is aimed at reducing each individual's environmental footprint.

Zi Wen, chief representative of WildAid in China, said, "Even if people care about the serious environmental issues like global warming, many actually don't know how to do so in their everyday lives. We are creating a platform for exchange of ideas."

Yang Bo, deputy director of the Energy Conservation Center, said, "We hope that the campaign can raise public awareness toward environmental change."

Celebrities including retired Olympic diving champion Guo Jingjing, actress Li Bingbing, musician Liu Huan, TV anchor Yang Lan and actor Zhao Wenzhuo helped make a free advertisement for the campaign.
