Hu Chunhua appointed Guangdong Party chief

BEIJING -- Hu Chunhua has been appointed secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), replacing Wang Yang, the CPC Central Committee announced Tuesday.

Wang Jun will replace Hu as secretary of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Committee of the CPC, according to the announcement.

Hu, born in April 1963, is currently a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Wang Yang is also a Political Bureau member.

Hu formerly served as deputy secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee of the CPC, first secretary of the Secretariat of the Communist Youth League of China Central Committee and governor of north China's Hebei Province.

Wang Jun, born in March 1952, was elected governor of north China's coal-rich Shanxi Province in January 2009.

Earlier in his career, he served as the deputy head of China's coal industry authority, deputy governor and deputy Party chief of Jiangxi Province, as well as the head and Party chief of the State Administration of Work Safety.

Zhao Leji, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, announced Hu's appointment at an official meeting in Guangdong.

Wang Jun's appointment was announced by Shen Yueyue, executive vice head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, at another official meeting in Inner Mongolia.
