BEIJING - President Hu Jintao made an inspection tour to southwest China's Guizhou Province from December 1 to 6.

During the visit, Hu asked local officials and people to further study and implement the spirit of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which concluded on November 14.

When visiting the historic venue of the Zunyi Conference in Zunyi City, President Hu said that "the arduous struggle and the great achievement made by revolutionary predecessors for the victory of the Chinese revolution should never be forgotten."

"We must carry forward the fine tradition of the Zunyi Conference and unswervingly follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics to create a more prosperous future for Chinese people and the nation." Hu said.

During his visit to several enterprises in the province, President Hu called for deepened reform in state-run companies and fostering scientific innovations to produce more competitive products.

Accompanied by Guizhou provincial Party chief Zhao Kezhi, President Hu asked local Party and government officials to improve urban lay-out and construction plans to better solve housing problems for people.

Hu also stressed that officials pay more attention to optimal land utilization for industrial and urban construction, and create a better living environment for residents.

At Bihai community service center of the provincial capital Guiyang City, Hu asked the community's party chief Cui Xiangqian, who is also a delegate of the CPC's 18th National Congress, to lead other Party members in community management and service.

President Hu also went to Bijie City in the northwest of the province, one of the poorest places in Guizhou that he first visited soon after taking up the post of provincial Party chief in the summer of 1985.

Hu said he was pleased to see farmers and urban residents in the city living a much better life compared with that of 20 years ago.

"The change in Bijie should be attributed to the common endeavor by officials and people of all ethnic groups," Hu said. "It also proves that we will create a more happy and prosperous life for people if we stick to the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and scientific development."

President Hu showed his appreciation to the work of Guizhou provincial Party committee and government. Hu said he believed that all causes of the province will be further developed under the leadership of the CPC's Central Committee with Xi Jinping as the general secretary.
