Lotus root, a crop commonly seen in Southern China, has been grown for the first time in a fishpond in Qingdao, Shandong province.

With the harvest season in full bloom, local households have hired skilled workers to help dig lotus roots, which are expected to yield a total harvest of around 300,000 kilograms.

The lotus roots will go on sale in Qingdao and surrounding areas.
