6. The Mandarin taught in Singapore's schools is very close to the Mandarin used in the Chinese mainland, and simplified characters are used. Most Chinese Singaporeans acquire the language quite well, and even some Indians in Singapore speak a little Mandarin. Chinese visitors can easily get around and about without speaking a foreign language.
