BEIJING - The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday afternoon confirmed that a high-ranking official recently discussed the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue with US officials in the United States.

Invited by the United States, a delegation headed by Wu Dawei, China's special representative for Korean Peninsula affairs, started visiting the United States on October 27, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a routine press briefing.

Wu held working consultations with Daniel Russel, US Department of State Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and Glyn Davies, US special representative for policy on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Hua said.

The two sides exchanged views on promoting the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and resumption of the six-party talks, she added.

The six-party talks, whose participants include China, Russia, the United States, the DPRK, the Republic of Korea and Japan, have been stalled since late 2008.
