Ice cool things down at AYG

A block of ice is cooling more than beverages at the stands of the handball court in Nanjing University of Technology at the 2nd Asian Youth Games in Nanjing on Aug 13. According to the university gymnasium administrator, about 10,000 yuan is spent per day on ice blocks as supplements to air conditioners to keep the court temperature as 24 degree Celsius, the standard temperature required by the Asian Handball Federation. With the ice blocks, more than 600,000 yuan is expected to be saved from equipping more air conditioners instead. The host city in East China is being plagued by continuous scorching weather around 38 degrees Celsius, which may continue next week. The Games will kick off on Friday. [Photo/Xinhua]
