Monkey King's tales

New releases

Ronshin Publishing has turned the scenes and characters from Journey to the West into a vivid pop-up book, Havoc in Heaven, which pieces together some 300 parts and boasts colors that hint of traditional paintings.

With its strong design and story, the book is already grabbing the attention of foreign publishers, including the French company Gallimard.

Another book dedicated to Journey to the West is by Changjiang Literature and Arts Publishing House.

The image of the Monkey King has become more popular than Harry Potter among children in the Czech Republic, thanks to the late Czech painter Zdenek Sklenar.

Inspired by a show performed by Peking Opera actors, Sklenar drew and published the story in Czech in the 1960s.

The Chinese version was released this month, including 12 small stories with 80 traditional Chinese ink paintings and 24 colorful full-page illustrations.
