Go Khok, former deputy Party chief of Lhasa, capital of the Tibet autonomous region, has been appointed the city's acting mayor, the authority announced on Monday.

The post had been vacant for four months since Zhang Yanqing, the city's previous mayor, was appointed top official of Xigaze, another city in the region, in June.

Go Khok, 49, was appointed to the post at the 27th Session of the 10th Lhasa People's Congress Standing Committee.

A native of a Tibetan ethnic group, Go Khok was born in Maizhokunggar county, which is about 70 kilometers east of Lhasa.

He is said to have vast experience of working in Lhasa and nearby counties under Lhasa's jurisdiction, having worked in the city's culture and tourism sectors before being named head of Nyemo county in 2007.

In 2010, he was elected deputy mayor of Lhasa. Three years later, he was appointed head of Lhasa's Chengguan district. In June this year, he was promoted to deputy Party secretary of Lhasa.

"I consider him a pragmatic and capable official. He is a polite man who maintains a low-profile," said Ji Jingang, an official of the city's Party committee.
