Former Sichuan vice governor expelled from CPC, public office

BEIJING -- Former vice governor of Southwest China's Sichuan province, Li Chengyun, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the public office for multiple offences, a statement said Tuesday.

Li, who used to be a member on the Sichuan Provincial Government's CPC leadership group, "violated political discipline and resisted a Party investigation," said the statement from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

The multiple offences Li had allegedly committed included not reporting his personal matters to authorities according to rules, violating the Party's code of conduct by holding shares in non-listed companies, taking advantage of his position to seek benefits for others and accepting bribes in return for business operations.

"Li should be dealt with in a serious manner as his case has had a bad influence," it said.

The CPC Central Committee has approved his expulsion from the Party and removal from office. Li's illegal profits should be confiscated and the case should be transferred to judicial organs.

Li has been placed under investigation since April.
