BEIJING - Wang Tianpu, general manager of oil giant China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Group), has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) for corruption and other violations of the Party code of conduct.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) launched an investigation into Wang in April and found he was involved in power trading to seek promotions, the CCDI said in a statement on Friday.

It accused him of violating CPC rules by accepting gift money and seeking profits for his relatives' businesses by taking advantage of his positions. Wang did not stop indulging his relatives even after warnings from authorities, according to the statement.

He also flouted the CPC's frugality code by using public funds to hold personal banquets and embezzling public money, the CCDI said, adding he also accepted bribes,

Wang's illegal gains have been seized and his case will be transferred to judicial authorities, the statement said.
