The Beijing committee of China's political advisory body is seeking votes to select the 10 most influential proposals of the past five years.

Thirty were chosen from the 6,279 nominated by the Beijing committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) between 2010 and 2014. They were judged on their significance, fulfillment and social influence.

Voting, conducted online and offline by CPPCC members and the public, will last until Sept 20.

"The most influential proposals must improve local people's lives and be selected by people themselves", said Li Chun Zeng, deputy director of the committee for handling proposals of CPPCC Beijing.

One proposal called for the draft of a law or regulation protecting underground cultural relics in Beijing. It pushed for the introduction in April last year, the first at provincial level.

The CPPCC exerts power mainly through putting forward proposals to the National People's Congress to carry out its function in political consultation, democratic supervision and participation in the management of State affairs.

This is the second time CPPCC Beijing has launched an election to expand the influence of proposals and the political system itself.
