Former public security official suspected of taking bribes

Li Dongsheng, former vice-minister of public security, has been investigated by the top prosecuting department on suspicion of accepting bribes, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Monday.

"We are conducting further investigation for his alleged bribery, and have taken compulsory measures against him," according to the website of the SPP on Monday.

Li was a former member of the 18th CPC Central Committee. There are 205 members, mostly senior officials at and above ministerial level, on the committee. He was also former deputy head of a central leading group for the prevention and handling of cult-related issues.

According to reports of Xinhua news agency, he allegedly took advantage of his position to seek benefits for others and received "a huge amount" of bribes.

In early July, he was expelled from the Party.

Also on Monday, Jiang Jiemin, former head of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and Wang Yongchun, former deputy general manager of China National Petroleum Corp, were investigated on bribery allegations, according to SPP.

Usually, when signs of corruption are found, the anti-graft organs will immediately conduct an investigation, and after gathering enough evidence, they will transfer the case to the anti-corruption department under the SPP for further investigation and, if warranted, prosecution.

Figures provided by the SPP show that in the first five months of this year, the top prosecuting department investigated seven ministerial-level officials.
