A senior official in Jiangxi province has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from his post for "serious disciplinary and legal violations", according to a statement published on Tuesday on the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Chen Anzhong, former deputy director of the standing committee of the provincial people’s congress, was investigated by the anti-graft agency for allegedly accepting large sums of bribes while in office.

The statement called Chen as morally corrupt and said he will be transferred to the judicial department for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Chen, born in 1954, has been sacked and placed under investigation since December.
