The Sino-Portugal Culture Cooperation Association was established on Friday in Beijing in the presence of visiting Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva.

The association aims to promote the teaching of the Chinese and Portuguese languages in each other's countries. The Beijing Foreign Studies University and University of Lisbon are the core institutions that will trade teaching resources, according to the BFSU.

The president, with wife, Maria Cavaco Silva, toured the university on Friday.

They visited the university library, where the president spoke to dozens of students. He touched on the country’s history and his previous visit to China many years ago.

The president answered several students' questions, which mainly focused on how to prepare themselves to be good Portuguese teachers.

The first lady of Portugal, herself a professor of Portuguese language and culture, then read and explained a poem by the late Portuguese poet Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen.
