A former senior political advisor has been expelled from the Communist Party of China in Hunan province for serious violations of Party discipline and State laws, according to a statement from the Party's top anti-graft body on Thursday.

Tong Mingqian, former vice-chairman of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, has also been dismissed from his public post, the statement said.

Tong, born in June 1958, was investigated over responsibility for electoral fraud in Hengyang involving more than 500 lawmakers and economic problems when he was Party chief in the city.

Tong's neglect of duty also led to huge economic losses for the State and damaged social cohesion, according to the statement.

But the statement did not reveal details of Tong's case.

Tong, a native of Changsha, capital of Hunan, will be transferred to judicial departments for further investigation and possible prosecution, the statement said.
