The Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China has introduced new regulations and rules that allow the province's Party chief and governor to visit foreign countries and regions no more than once a year, Nanfang Daily reported.

And provincial-level officials will not be allowed to have more than two overseas trips, or more than once every two years, when they are in office.

The new regulations and rules also strictly stipulated the number of days allocated for foreign trips by senior officials, the number of officials who can accompany them, the use of transportation and other overseas expenditures, the newspaper said.

Meanwhile the ceremonies to see off and meet officials at airports have also been simplified, Nanfang Daily said.

The province's foreign affairs department will be responsible for implementing the new regulations and rules which aim to prevent and fight corruption and extravagance and boost work efficiency.

The new regulations and rules were introduced after expenditures on overseas trips have been rising in the southern province in recent years.

Guangdong which borders Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions is the first to introduce such regulations and rules.
