The new British consul general in Chongqing hopes to improve economic and cultural cooperation between the southwestern city and the United Kingdom.

"I believe there is great potential in cooperation in the water and architecture fields between Chongqing and the UK, including urbanization, city planning, and transportation," Tina Redshaw, the newly appointed consul general, said.

She added that she looks forward to more cooperation between the two country's universities in cultural fields.

The consulate general in Chongqing is hosting a photo exhibition of photos of China before 1950 collected by the UK's Bristol University.

Redshaw took up her new position in November 2013. Prior to that, she worked at the British embassy in Beijing.

As a new resident of the city, Redshaw hopes to bring more Chongqing taste to British people.

"Before I came to Chongqing as the consul general, none of my British friends had heard of the place. I told them it may be the largest metropolitan area in the world. My job is to make sure more British people know about this city," Redshaw said, adding that she likes the local cuisine such as Chongqing hotpot.

Redshaw holds a bachelor's degree in language and linguistics from the University of York and a master's in international development management from Open University.
