BEIJING - China said on Tuesday its ambassador to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) had attended activities to commemorate late DPRK leader Kim Jong Il on the second anniversary of his death.

Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a regular press briefing that China will continue to facilitate the healthy and stable growth of China-DPRK ties and contribute to regional peace and stability.

She said General-Secretary Kim Jong Il had made important contributions to the growth of China-DPRK relations.

"Maintaining healthy development of China-DPRK ties serves the interests of both countries, and is of positive significance to safeguarding the peace and stability of northeast Asia," Hua said.

Pyongyang marked the second anniversary of Kim Jong Il's death on Tuesday.
